Junior A Football Championship
St James’ 2-10 O’Donovan Rossa 1-13

With time fast running out in Sunday’s football-championship game with O’Donovan Rossa, St James’ found themselves in need of a goal and a point, then scored exactly that to level the game and earn a replay. St James’ had gone in at half-time four points up, having pointed six times and scored a vital goal. That said, O’Donovan Rossa had themselves come close to scoring goals on a few occasions in that first half. Early in the second half St James added another three points to their tally, but these were cancelled out by an O’Donovan Rossa goal. O’Donovan Rossa then showed what they were really capable of, scoring eight points without reply. They might also have scored another goal during that scoring spree, but were denied by good goalkeeping. Then, with the scoreboard showing O’Donovan Rossa on 1-13 and St James’ on 1-9 and only minutes remaining, Frank Hayes pointed from a free and then finished off a great passing move with the goal that levelled the game. Time was up and a replay the outcome.
