Minor Football League | Ardfield | 19th February 2012
St James’ 3-7 Tadhg MacCarthaig 0-17
The minor footballers took to the field for their first league game, and despite losing by a point earned the praise of mentors Billy Crowley and Eoin Deasy (plus Denis Fitzpatrick). Actual minors are in short supply this season, so a lot is expected of several under-16 players; in this case, nine of the fourteen-strong panel were under sixteen. Of these, Ciarán O’Donovan stood up well in goal, keeping a clean sheet, while Jack Hurley and Brandon Creagh were solid in the back line (Jack Hurley demonstrating a fabulous kick-out from the tee). In midfield, Niall Evans, Ruairc Courtney and Seán Scully were dominant for the entire match and sent a lot of ball up to the forwards. St James’ found the net several times, but Caheragh’s preference for points enabled them to build up a winning tally.
Panel: Ciarán O’Donovan, Brandon Creagh, Jack Hurley, Cian McPeake, Seán Scully, Niall Evans, Ruairc Courtney, Shaun Goggin, Dylan O’Sullivan, Seán O’Connor, Jack Butler, Aaron Hayes, Brian Lombard, Alan Butler
