Minor Football Championship

St Colm’s 4-10 St James’ 1-8

The minor footballers did not fare too well in their championship encounter with St Colm’s. The Kealkill team quickly pulled away with goals and points, though St James’ did manage to find enough scores to reduce the half-time gap to a goal and four points. Colm’s piled on the agony again in the second half, with two quick goals. Aaron Hayes then scored St James’ first and only point from play, but though St James’ did begin to dominate, the goals for Colm’s had already done the damage. James Hayes, in his last minor football match, showed great composure when scoring 1-7 from frees and a penalty.

Panel: Pa Keohane, Thomas Nyhan, Danny O’Connor, Jack Hurley, Niall Evans, Brian O’Donovan, Seán Scully, Ruairc Courtney-Fitzpatrick, Tadhg Casey, Shaun Goggin, Aaron Hayes 0-1, James Hayes 1-7, Cian Kavanagh, Reuben O’Hea, Dylan Twomey-O’Sullivan, Ciarán O’Donovan, Jack Butler, Seán O’Connor, Ewan Courtney-Fitzpatrick.

New Pitch Development

Work is underway on the development of a much-needed second pitch for St James’ (go to home page of this website to see illustration). The new pitch will adjoin the existing pitch, and it is hoped to have the work completed in the next few weeks – weather permitting – and to have it growing grass by mid-September. Hopefully, it should be playable by mid-2012.

Funding for the pitch will depend on grants and the generosity of club supporters, who are being encouraged to join the recently launched loan scheme. Details of the scheme have been communicated by letter to parishioners. For further information, please contact club secretary Liam Evans on 086-6017283.
