Junior A Football League (22th June 2013, Leap)
Kilmacabea 1-15 St. James 0-8

St. James' took on Kilmacabea in Leap on Saturday evening last, on what was a perfect night for a football match with much praise going to Kilmacabea on the excellent condition of their pitch. After last week’s tight win over Barryroe, St. James were looking to put back to back league wins together to further strengthen their position in the league table as well as continue their preparation for the next round of the football championship.

The away side though, were without a number of key players – with eight of the squad from the team that togged off against Barryroe missing for Saturdays encounter. St. James started brightly, though scores proved hard to come by in the opening exchanges. Kilmacabea though began to take control of things as the half worn on – kicking a number of scores from long range. St. James only response came in the form of two points each from both Mark Evans and Frank Hayes.

Kilmacabea carried on where they had left off in the first half and took complete control by adding 1-3 without reply 15 min’s into the second half. St. James did however launch a mini revival with further scores from Mark Evans as well as a point from his brother Ian. Much improvement will be needed next time around against St. Colum’s next Sunday – however with much of  the first team due to return – it is hoped that another league win can be achieved.

Special mention also goes to Ian Evans who made his first Junior A league appearance since returning from Wales – we wish him well on his return to competitive action with St. James.

St James play St. Colums next Sunday 30 June at 12 in Ardfield.
