Junior Football
In Leap against Kilmacabea last Sunday, St James’ junior A footballers emerged victors, but only after a tough encounter. Played on a very heavy surface, there was no room for fancy football and any mistake was punished. For most of the game it was score for score, but it was St James’ who shaded it at the break (0-6 to 0-5). In the second half St James’ opened up a four-point lead, only for Kilmacabea to score a goal with only ten minutes remaining. However, a converted penalty by Mark Evans restored the four-point lead (bringing Evans’s tally for the day to 1-7). Kilmacabea kept up the pressure and reduced the difference to two points, and came close to a last-minute goal, only to be kept out by St James’ goalkeeper Diarmuid O’Donovan. Final score: St James’ 1-14 Kilmacabea 1-12
