Junior A Hurling Championship Quarter-final (Game played Sunday August 2nd in Castletownkenneigh)

St Colums 2-6 St James 0-5

The less said about the hurlers exit from the Championship, the better with the story of the day being that St James could only manage one point from play in a game where they were out-fought, out-thought and out-played by a better St Colums team. The Junior panels have put in a huge effort at both codes this year but unfortunately it's back to the drawing-board as the Club heads into August out of both Championships.

Team: Diarmuid O’Donovan, Eoin Deasy, Shane Field, Seamus McCarthy, Shane O’Driscoll, Paul O’Sullivan, James O’Sullivan, Micheal McCarthy (B), Michael Santry, James O’Driscoll (0-5), Kevin O’Leary, Brian O’Donovan, Aaron Hayes, Kevin O’Brien, Mark Evans. Subs used: Donnacha McCarthy, David Hayes, Finbarr McCarthy, Ian Evans.

St James U13’s suffered a heavy defeat in their third football League match on Monday (Aug 10th) last. Ballingeary made the long trip and left deserving winners after St James staged a spirited comeback in the second half, scoring 4-4 on the night in total.

Team: (12-a-side): Cian Hurley, Daniel Barrett, Ben McShane (0-1), Aaron O’Brien, Cameron Whelton, Sean Lawless, Liam Barry (1-2), James Hodnett, John O’Donovan (3-1), David O’Brien, Gearoid O’Donovan, Daniel Bennett.

The U12 squad have a busy few days coming up. Nine Clubs have been invited to an U12 football blitz this Saturday in Ardfield, 10am till 12 noon. St James will enter two teams (9-a-side) in the blitz. The nine teams that are visiting Ardfield are Carbery Rangers, Castlehaven, Clann na nGael, Clonakilty, Kilmacabea, Kilmeen, Newcestown, O’Donovan Rossa and Oliver Plunketts.

Three days later, all roads lead to Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney where the U12 footballers will take part in a Monster U12 Football blitz.

Finally, St James GAA would like to thank everybody who supported the Club during Ardfield Summer festival and Ardfield/Rathbarry Old Time Threshing. The plan is for all funds from the festival to go towards pitch floodlighting with threshing funds to go towards the underage side of things as per usual.
